Inter Miami’s star striker Gonzalo Higuain has played just six games in Major League Soccer, but even that was enough for the Argentinian to realize he made the right move. In a recent chat with CBS, Higuain even said that coming to MLS made him “enjoy playing soccer again.”

Higuain joined Inter in September on a free transfer after a semi-successful four-year stint with Seria A champions Juventus. On the one hand, the 32-year-old player won three titles during his time with the club and scored 66 goals in 149 games. But on the other, he was also often criticized for his performance and was even sent on loan on two occasions.

This unsettling period in his career made Higuain stop enjoying playing the game he loves.

“I think from a media perspective, Europe was just too much,” Higuain told CBS. “I had to basically prove to them every day, game by game, what I have done all my career, and patience was cutting short. So they don’t give you time to truly enjoy playing.”

After coming to the United States, however, Higuain rediscovered his happiness.

“I wanted to come here with the intention of being happy to play again and I think Inter Miami gave me everything I needed,” Higuain told CBS. “Coming here to this league, gives me that feeling again, back when I was a kid enjoying playing, where in Europe I think that left me for many different reasons.”

While Gonzalo Higuain is happy in MLS, he still hasn’t translated that to performance on the field. Higuain struggled to adapt to Miami’s style of play so far, managing to score only one goal. The good news is that he will have enough time to settle in and rediscover his form as Inter isn’t counting on being competitive this season.
