Graham Potter has been announced as the new manager of Premier League club Chelsea, succeeding Thomas Tuchel who was dismissed on Wednesday after 100 games in charge. The new manager signed a five-year deal with the club.

Prior to becoming the 30th manager in Chelsea’s history, Potter was the manager of fellow Premier League side Brighton & Hove Albion. The Blues are believed to have paid in the region of £16 million to release him from his contract with Brighton.

“I am incredibly proud and excited to represent Chelsea FC, this fantastic football club,” Potter confirmed following the announcement of his appointment.

While the likes of Mauricio Pochettino and Zinedine Zidane were also shortlisted for the role, Chelsea ultimately prioritized Potter, who has impressed with his effective management of Brighton. Under Potter’s management, Brighton finished in 9th place in the Premier League last season and currently sits in fourth place with four wins in six matches.

Known for his attacking style of play and use of wingbacks, Potter will be spoiled for choice following Chelsea’s long list of summer transfers. Reece James and ben Chilwell remain solid options at wingback or fullback, while new arrivals including defenders Marc Cucurellaand Wesley Fofana as well as attackers Raheem Sterling and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang provide much-needed squad depth.
