Grant Wahl is set to posthumously receive the Colin Jose Media Award—a prize awarded to journalists who make long-term contributions to soccer in the United States. This comes after the soccer journalist died on December 10 after collapsing while covering the 2022 Qatar World Cup quarterfinal between Argentina and the Netherlands.

“He dedicated his life to growing the game and left an indelible legacy on American soccer. Grant Wahl has been named the recipient of the 2023 Colin Jose Media Award.” the National Soccer Hall of Fame tweeted.

Wahl will be honored at the U.S. National Soccer Hall of Fame induction on May 6. Landon Donovan, DaMarcus Beasley, Lauren Cheney Holiday, Kate Sobrero Markgraf, Jill Ellis, and Steve Zungul are all set to be inducted at the ceremony.

In addition, U.S. Soccer announced that it will save a seat for Wahl in press boxes at all USMNT and USWNT games until the 2026 World Cup, which the United States is set to co-host.

Wahl worked for Sports Illustrated from 1996 until 2021, covering soccer and college basketball. He also authored the books “The Beckham Experiment,” about David Beckham’s move to LA Galaxy, and “Masters of Modern Soccer.”
