With his contract due to expire in 2023, Manchester City head coach Pep Guardiola has announced his intention to leave the club following the expiration of the contract.

Having signed a contract extension with the club in November 2020, the Spanish coach has expressed his desire to take a break from management before moving on to coaching at an international level.

“After seven years at this club, I think I’m going to have a break. I will need to rest after being somewhere so many years and also stop to evaluate what we’ve done and to try to learn from other coaches,” Guardiola explained.

Guardiola has also mentioned that he would be open to considering a South American nation for his next job, citing his interest in participating in the Copa America competition.

Since beginning his tenure with Manchester City, Guardiola has won three Premier League titles. Prior to arriving in Manchester, he also won several league titles with Barcelona and Bayern Munich, along with two Champions League trophies with Barca.

Guardiola’s Manchester City has been busy during the current transfer window, following the exit of striker Sergio Aguero to Barcelona. The club has been tracking Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane all summer, and following his decision to remain at Spurs, have shifted their sights to Juventus forward Cristiano Ronaldo.
