Due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, The Pro Football Hall of Fame decided to cancel its annual HOF Game. According to ESPN, the enshrinement ceremony of the 2020 class of inductees has been affected as well.
Dallas Cowboys and Pittsburgh Steelers were set to meet in the Hall Of Fame Game, which usually also serves as the NLF preseason opener on August 6th in Canton, Ohio. The event will be canceled, however, with Cowboys and Steelers now set to play in 2021 at the same venue.
The Hall of Fame enshrinement ceremony, scheduled for August 8th, won’t be canceled, but it will be postponed. The new date will probably be set for early 2021.
Because of their participation in the game, Cowboys and Steelers were set to enter the training camp earlier than other teams this year. However, after the cancellation, they will now probably follow the rest of the league.
The majority of the NFL teams are scheduled to officially open their training camps on July 28th. However, the league reportedly still didn’t make a final decision about this and will address the issue during the upcoming conference call between the team owners.
The cancelation of the HOF game is the first time that the NFL’s schedule has been affected by the ongoing health crisis. The league previously managed to go through with the Draft and free agency by making necessary adjustments.
