Chicago White Sox are reportedly looking to add a manager with a Hall of Fame resume to their dugout after recently firing Rick Renteria. According to multiple reports, White Sox asked and received permission from Los Angeles Angels to interview Tony La Russa for the job.

La Russa is currently serving as senior adviser for baseball operations for Angels and hasn’t managed a team since leaving St. Louis Cardinals following a World Series win in 2011. However, sources close to the organization say that the 76-year-old manager is intrigued by White Sox’s opening and is looking forward to the interview.

Renteria was fired by Chicago White Sox shortly after the team was eliminated in the American League Wild Card series against the Oakland Athletics. This was the first time in more than a decade that White Sox even made it to the postseason.

Now the franchise hopes Tony La Russa’s experience at the biggest change could finally turn the franchise to winning ways. La Russa, who was unanimously inducted in the Hall of Fame in 2014, already managed the White Sox between 1979 and 1986. He led them to a 99-63 season in 1983 when he received the Manager of the Year award.

After leaving Chicago, La Russa embarked on stints with Athletics and Cardinals. He spent 10 seasons in Oakland (1986-1995), winning a World Series in 1989, before joining Cardinals and leading them to two World Series wins in 2006 and 2011.

La Russa managed a total of 5,097 games in MLB and has a 2728 – 2365 record. He is 70-58 in the postseason.
