The Atlanta Hawks announced on Friday that they have agreed to an extension with their shooting guard Bogdan Bogdanovic. The Hawks said it was a multi-year deal but didn’t disclose further contract details.

Reportedly, Bogdanovic got a four-year deal that will pay him $68 million. As part of the agreement, he is declining his $18 million player option for 2023-24.

“Bogi brings so many of the qualities we are looking for in a Hawks player. In addition to his elite shooting ability, he has the versatility to thrive as a starter or sixth man, and competitiveness that is invaluable to our team and culture,” Hawks’ general manager Landry Fields said in a statement. “We are excited that he will remain a key part of our team going forward.”

Bogdanovic was widely expected to hit the free agent market in the summer, where he would have been an intriguing option for many shooting-needy teams. The 30-year-old Serbian is considered a reliable three-point threat, shooting 38.6 percent beyond the arc since entering the league in 2017. By agreeing on an early extension, Atlanta will avoid having to enter a potential bidding war while Bogdanovic gets long-term security.

Bogdan Bogdanovic played only 43 games in 2022-23, missing extended time with back and knee issues. He is averaging 14.1 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 2.9 assists while making 40.1 percent of his three-pointers this season,
