After last night’s fourth straight loss to start the season, Houston Texans coach and general manager Bill O’Brien said that he wasn’t worried about his job.

It turns out that he should have been because O’Brien has been fired after the Texans 0-4 start to the season.

O’Brien has faced a lot of criticism not just for how the team has been playing, but for the personnel decisions that he has recently made.

This summer, O’Brien traded away DeAndre Hopkins, one of the best wide receivers in the league, for a second-round pick and a running back. He also traded two first-round picks for offensive tackle Laremy Tunsil.

While it can certainly be said that O’Brien did have a good amount of success, taking the team to four AFC South titles in the last five years, the Texans haven’t found much success in the playoffs, most notoriously collapsing in the 2019 playoffs by blowing a 24-point lead to the Kansas City Chiefs.

Defensive coordinator Romeo Crennel is expected to take over as interim head coach.

The Texans will have to get the general manager hire right if they plan on taking advantage of their star quarterback Deshaun Watson’s prime years, especially without their first two picks in the 2021 draft. Watson recently signed a four-year $156 million contract.
