Goalie Michael Hutchinson has signed a two-year, $725,000 deal with the Toronto Maple Leafs, thereby extending his tenure with the Canadian hockey franchise.

Hutchinson played 16 games for the Maple Leafs as well as Colorado Avalanche last season, racking up a 5-9-1 record along with a 3.47 goals-against average, .888 save percentage, and one shutout.

The 30-year-old goalie arrived at the Maple Leafs last season after making just a single appearance for the Avalanche in the 2019-20 campaign. This was during a fixture against the Detroit Red Wings when Hutchinson made 17 saves to lift his side to a 2-1 victory.

Hutchinson’s career began in 2008 when he was picked by the Boston Bruins in the 2008 NHL Draft. After representing the Bruins’ minor league affiliate the Providence Bruins of the American Hockey League (AHL) for three years, the Canadain goalie signed for the Winnipeg Jets as a free agent.

Revered for helping the Jets reach the 2014-15 NHL playoffs, Hutchinson traded to the Florida Panthers in 2018, after which he represented the Maple Leafs and Avalanche in the NHL as well as the Toronto Marlies in the AHL.

Hutchinson is the latest in a series of contractual dealings conducted by the Maple Leafs this offseason, with Joey Anderson joining the team from the New Jersey Devils.
