Indiana Pacers are in big need of a floor general, and it seems like Spanish point guard Ricky Rubio might be the guy. According to Kevin O’Connor of The Ringer, Pacers made Rubio their main target in this summer’s free agency.

Rubio spent previous two seasons with the Utah Jazz, but the organization isn’t expected to offer him a new contract as they just acquired Mike Conley from Memphis Grizzlies. He averaged 12.7 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 6.1 assists in 2018/19.

A big reason why Jazz moved on from Rubio is because of his poor shooting performance. But Pacers are willing to look past that as they believe his playmaking abilities and defensive effort will complement shooting guard Victor Oladipo’s shoot-first style of play. Indiana might also pursue D’Angelo Russell for PG position, but it is unclear whether he will even hit the free market.

Ricky Rubio spent the majority of his NBA career with the Minnesota Timberwolves, who took him fifth overall in 2009 NBA Draft. Although Rubio developed into a solid starting point guard, he never quite matched early projections which saw him as a potential franchise star.

Rubio’s career averages during his eight years in the league include 11.1 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 7.7 assists.
