The Cleveland Indians announced on Wednesday that starting pitcher Carlos Carrasco would be heading to the injured list for an indefinite period of time.

The reason for this is a blood condition that the Venezuelan pitcher is dealing with. The club has stated that the ailment is not baseball-related, but has offered few specifics about what the exact problem is.

Carrasco has spent several seasons as a fixture in Cleveland’s starting rotation. He was off to a slow start in 2019, as he’s accumulated a 4-6 record and a 4.98 ERA.

The condition was discovered after Carrasco spent several weeks complaining about feeling low on energy and lethargic. These symptoms were apparently limiting his capacity to perform well on the mound.

Now, he will spend time on the injured list as doctors look to find a solution that will help him regain the ability to pitch.

In the meantime, Cleveland must look for a potential replacement for one of the long-time rocks of their rotation. It will be important to replace the 32-year-old’s experience and consistency.

The Indians have yet to make public who will replace Carrasco on the active roster, but all signs point to it being a starting pitcher.
