Inter Milan turned Alexis Sanchez’s loan from Manchester United into a permanent deal. The Seria A side confirmed the capture of 31-year-old Chilean forward on Thursday.

According to the announcement, Sanchez will join Inter as a free player, after previously agreeing to a contract termination with Man Utd. He signed a three-year contract.

Alexis Sanchez joined United back in January 2018, becoming the highest-paid player in the Premier League with a salary of $730,000 a week. However, he failed to settle in Manchester and scored just five goals in 45 games. The club ended up running out of patience last summer and shipped him to Italy on a season-long deal.

With Inter, Sanchez also had some growing pains but fared a lot better than on Old Trafford. Despite struggling with injuries, he managed to score four goals in 22 Seria A games while also leading the team with nine assists.

“They’ve liked him, so of course that’s a good move for him. Wish him all the best. He’s a top player that we want to see play his best football,” said Man Utd’s manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer after the deal was confirmed. “For whatever reason, we didn’t see the best of Alexis, but he’s a top professional and we just wish him all the best.”

Sanchez also spent the early portion of his career in Italy, wearing the Udinese jersey between 2006 and 2011. He later played with Barcelona and Arsenal before joining Man Utd.
