Isaiah Thomas will attempt to get his NBA career back on its feet with Washington Wizards next season. According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Thomas has agreed to a one-year deal with the Wizards.
Wizards recently lost guard Tomas Satoransky in a sign-and-trade deal with the Chicago Bulls and were in need of some backcourt depth. Besides Satoransky’s departure, Washington will also be without their star point guard John Wall, as he is recovering from an Achilles injury.
Wojnarowski’s sources say that Thomas met with Wizards’ interim general manager Tommy Sheppard on Monday and was encouraged by a bigger role he might have on the team next season.
Isaiah Thomas spent the previous NBA season with the Denver Nuggets but missed the most of the action due to hip surgery. Once he returned, he appeared in only 12 games, averaging 8.1 points, 1.9 assists, and 1.1 rebounds, before falling out of the rotation.
Despite his struggles in the recent two years, Thomas recently said that he is aiming to get to the MVP candidate level he played on with Boston Celtics during 2016/17 season.
“I’m going to get back to a level that I was playing at,” – Thomas told ESPN. “I’m excited to show what I can do again.”
