Legendary defensive end J.J. Watt is already onto a new venture after ending his professional football career earlier this year. Watt and his wife, Kealia Watt, former USWNT midfielder, have recently announced that they have acquired a minority stake in the English soccer club Burnley FC.

Burnley just won the EFL Championship, the second tier of English soccer competition, and will play in the Premier League next season. The club returns to the top flight after a one-year absence.

Burnley is one of the oldest soccer clubs in England, being founded in 1882. They have been champions twice, with their last title coming in 1959–60. They are also one-time FA Cup winners.

“When you invest in a club that’s been around since 1882, you must have great respect for its history and tradition,” J.J. and Kealia said in a joint statement. “We understand that not only are we investing in the squad and manager, we’re investing in the town and its people. We take that responsibility very seriously and intend to work hard in earning their trust and support.”

J.J. Watt retired after playing 12 years in NFL with the Houston Texans and the Arizona Cardinals. He was a three-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year and a five-time Pro Bowler.

Kealia Watt is currently a free agent after previously playing with Houston Dash and Chicago Red Stars in NSWL. She also has three appearances with the United States women’s national team.
