The Jacksonville Jaguars have announced that legendary college football coach Urban Meyer will be their new head coach. Jaguars owner Shad Khan said that the organization got “who we want and need” for the job.

The 56-year-old coach is one of the greatest college football coaches of all time. He most recently coached Ohio State, where he had a record of 83-9 and won a national championship. Before Ohio State, Meyer coached in Florida, Utah, and Bowling Green, going 104-23 with those three teams. He also won a national championship while in Florida.

The Jaguars job was one of the most attractive vacancies this offseason. Even though the team has had very little recent success, they currently hold the first pick in the 2021 NFL draft and have a lot of cap space to work with as well.

Since Meyer has many strong connections in both the college and NFL ranks, he is expected to assemble a very strong staff around him as well.

Meyer and the Jaguars are expected to take Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence with the first overall pick, who should become the cornerstone player of the new team in Jacksonville. Lawrence is seen by many as the best quarterback prospect to come out of college in the last decade.
