Veteran tight end Evan Engram won’t be playing the 2023 NFL season on a franchise tag after all. The Jags announced on Monday that Engram agreed to a new three-year deal with the organization.

The Jags placed a franchise tag of $11.345 million on Engram earlier in the offseason, preventing the Pro Bowler from hitting free agency. The two sides continued to work on a long-term agreement and managed to reach it just before the Monday deadline.

“It was pretty wild,” Engram said of the negotiations. “Obviously, the Jaguars believed in me. They wanted me here as much as I wanted to be here, so I’m blessed and really thankful we got something done. It was up and down. I kind of wish it maybe would have gotten done a little earlier.

Jacksonville didn’t share the financial terms of the deal, but ESPN’s Adam Schefter says that the contract Engram received is worth $41.25 million. It reportedly comes with $24 million in guarantees.

Evan Engram, a first-round pick in 2017, spent the first five years of his NFL career with the New York Giants. During that time, he earned PFWA All-Rookie Team honors and received one Pro Bowl selection.

Engram left the Giants as a free agent after the 2021 campaign and ended up signing a one-year, $9 million contract with the Jaguars. The 28-year-old player had a career-high 73 catches for 766 receiving yards last season to go with three touchdowns.
