Three-times Pro Bowl defensive end Jadeveon Clowney is probably heading to his third organization in less than a year. According to ESPN’s sources, Clowney is unlikely to re-sign with Seahawks, with whom he spent the 2019 season

Clowney remains the best remaining free-agent on the market and has recently said that he would like to return to Seattle. However, this scenario is highly unlikely as the team’s current financial situation doesn’t allow them to make a competitive offer.

Seahawks were engaged in contract negotiations with Clowney since the free agency kicked off, but couldn’t come to an agreement with the player. Eventually, Seattle decided they can’t afford to wait and signed Bruce Irvin and Benson Mayowa to boost their pass rush.

Entering the free agency, Jadeveon Clowney was reportedly asking something north of $20 million a year. However, the coronavirus pandemic and Clowney’s medical history caused teams to take a cautious approach and don’t come forward with such an offer.

Clowney later dropped his asking price to $17 million annually but is still having a hard time generating substantial interest. And while Seahawks remain interested in a reunion, they probably can’t even approach the discount figure after signing Irvin and Mayowa.

According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, Cleveland Browns, Baltimore Ravens, Tennessee Titans, and Philadelphia Eagles emerged as Clowney’s most probable destinations. Reportedly, Browns got the furthest in the process and are now favorites for his signature.
