Jags Attempt to Trade RB Leonard Fournette, But Find No Interest

Jacksonville Jaguars are reportedly trying to trade running back Leonard Fournette, but find no particular interest for the 25-year-old around the league.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Jags have been shopping Fournette for more than a month without any success.

Fournette, who was fourth overall pick three years ago, had a respectable season in 2019. He finished the year with 1,152 rushing yards and three touchdowns to go with 76 receptions for 522 yards. While this would guarantee him safety with most other NFL teams, Jags are heading to a rebuild once again and apparently would like to cash in on his talents while there is still a chance.

The issue here is that the value of running backs dipped down in recent years. Multiple teams have managed to find success with RBs on cheaper contracts, and there is plenty of talent to be found later in the draft. This is why bringing a potentially pricy player in Leonard Fournette and giving up assets for him isn’t particularly tempting for the rest of the league.

Fournette recently made the headlines when he urged Jags to acquire free-agent quarterback Cam Newton and provide competition for the inexperienced Gardner Minshew. But it looks like even if Jacksonville decides to take his advice, Fournette won’t benefit much from it.
