Jacksonville Jaguars will enter the 2021 NFL season with a new head coach. The Jags announced on Monday that the organization parted ways with Doug Marrone, bringing to an end his six-year stint in Jacksonville. The move comes after the Jaguars finished 2020 with a 1-15 record, marking the worst season in the franchise history.

The team confirmed the news on social media as well, sharing a statement from owner Shad Khan. In the statement, Khan said that he’s “committed and determined to deliver winning football” to Jacksonville and that this goal requires a “fresh start throughout our football operations.”

The Jaguars’ head coaching vacancy immediately becomes the most tempting job in the NFL at the moment.

“Thanks” to the team’s poor performances in 2020, the Jags will have the No.1 overall pick in this year’s draft, which they are expected to use on a generational talent that is Clemson’s quarterback Trevor Lawrence. They also have a first-rounder in 2021 from the LA Rams and seven picks in the first four rounds overall, on top of $75 million in cap space.

Doug Marrone initially joined the Jaguars’ organization in 2015 as an assistant head coach and offensive line coach. After the team fired head coach Gus Bradley towards the end of the 2016 NFL season, Marrone took over the job on an interim basis and showed enough to get the gig permanently the next season.

Marrone went 10-6 in his first season as a head coach, making the playoffs and leading the Jags to an AFC Championship. However, things went downhill from there.

In the next three seasons, Marrone failed to build a contender and only won 12 games compared to 36 losses. The Jaguars also finished last in the AFC South in all three years, making the change at head coach become just a matter of time.
