The San Francisco 49ers kicker Jake Moody sprained his ankle during his team’s narrow 24-23 loss to the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday afternoon. While tight end George Kittle expressed dismay at Moody’s injury, the kicker himself shut down anxiety over the seriousness of his injury.
“Thankfully, I didn’t feel anything break or crack or anything as I did when I did break it,” Moody explained. “That was good. But I knew something was wrong immediately. It’s just unfortunate.”
Moody’s setback is a major concern for the 49ers, which gave up a double-digit lead in the fourth quarter to lose for a second time this season. This is a major contrast to the 51-2 record that the team had under Kyle Shanahan prior to this season when leading by double digits in the fourth quarter.
Following their narrow defeat to the Cardinals, the 49ers now find themselves in third place in the NFC West, winning just two games and losing three so far this season. The 49ers next face the Seattle Seahawks, who are leading the division, on Thursday night.
