Los Angeles Rams’ Pro Bowl cornerback Jalen Ramsey is entering the final year of his rookie deal, and it is just a matter of time before he inks a new contract. According to a number of reports, Ramsey and Rams are currently engaged in negotiations and are hoping to get an extension done before the start of the season.

Ramsay himself confirmed that the talks are underway, and is convinced that there won’t be any issues in getting the deal done.

“The Rams know where I stand,” said Ramsey on Tuesday during a press conference with reporters. “I think that’s all that matters at the end of the day. It will be handled. They know where I stand. They’ve been in contact with my agent. They’re on the same page as my agent.”

Ramsay added that he hasn’t put a timeline on the negotiations, and confirmed that he will participate in Rams’ training camp this offseason even if he doesn’t get a contract until then.

Wanting a new contract was one of the main reasons why Jalen Ramsey demanded a trade from Jacksonville Jaguars in 2019. Ramsay was vocal about wanting a new deal, but the Jags decided to play the waiting game, which ended up burning the bridges between two sides. Jacksonville ended up trading the 25-year-old to Rams for two first-round picks and a fourth-rounder.

Reportedly, extending Ramsay won’t be cheap for the Rams. He has been one of the best corners in the game in recent years and wants to get paid like one. Ramsay’s extension will most certainly reset the CB market and make him the highest-paid player in history at his position.

Since entering the league in 2016 as a fifth overall pick, Ramsay played 60 NFL games and contributed 243 tackles, 50 pass deflections, 10 interceptions, and one touchdown. He earned three Pro Bowl selections and a First-Team All-Pro honors in 2017.
