The winless New York Jets continued their roster shake-ups on Tuesday by releasing veteran cornerback Pierre Desir. The move, confirmed by the team on social media, comes after Desir was benched in the Week 9 loss to New England Patriots.

Alongside the release of Desir, the Jets also announced that they placed corner Brian Poole on the Injured Reserve and added tight end Connor Davis to their practice squad.

Desir signed with the Jets in March on a one-year, $4 million contract and was expected to be the team’s primary option on the CB position. However, the 30-year-old player failed to make an expected impact and blended in with the team’s struggling atmosphere.

Desir had some bright moments in Jets’ jersey, including two interceptions and a defensive touchdown against Denver Broncos, but that wasn’t enough to cover up for some painful mistakes and lack of effort on coverage.

The previously mentioned game against the Patriots sealed Desir’s fate as he allowed Damiere Byrd to catch a 31-yard pass in a tightly contested game and seemed reluctant to chase his man across the field.

Jets will now turn to rookie Bryce Hall, whom they selected in the fifth round of the 2020 NFL Draft. The former Virginia product played one game this season, totaling two tackles.
