Jets Get First Win This Season, Lose No.1 Pick in 2021

The New York Jets finally managed to get a win this season, but it’s hard to see it as a success for the franchise. By improving to a 1-13 record with a 23-20 upset against the LA Rams, the Jets are no longer in the position to have the No.1 pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.

The Jets have the same record as the Jacksonville Jaguars, but the Jags hold the tie-break since they played a weaker schedule.

If the Jets don’t end up with the first overall selection, they will most likely miss out on the opportunity to draft a generational talent in Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence. Compared to all-time greats like Peyton Manning, Lawrence was already viewed as a savior by Jets fans and someone that could return the franchise to their winning ways.

Speaking after the win, Jets head coach Adam Gase wasn’t happy about the negativity surrounding the outcome of the game.

“Hey, our job is to try to go out and win every week,” said Gase, who was on the path to becoming just the third coach in NFL history to lead the team to a 0-16 record. “It’s been too long for us to even remember what a win feels like almost.”

The NY Jets are still guaranteed to have a top-three pick next year, so their search for a new quarterback might not be over just yet. There are several talented quarterbacks besides Lawrence, including Ohio State’s Justin Fields, so the franchise could still move on from the struggling Sam Darnold and restart their rebuild once again.
