Thursday night’s 28-37 loss to Denver Broncos is proving to be devastating for New York Jets in more than one way. The team didn’t only fall to 0-4 record after this game but also saw their starting quarterback Sam Darnold go down with a shoulder injury.

Darnold was injured in the first quarter after being slammed to the ground by Denver’s linebacker A.J. Johnson during a sack. While the 23-year-old quarterback seemed like he wouldn’t be able to continue, he ended up missing just five snaps and returned to finish the contest.

Jets confirmed on Friday that Darnold is dealing with a shoulder sprain.

“I think anything is on the table right now,” Jets’ head coach Adam Gase told reporters during a conference call. “I haven’t really had a chance to talk to him in detail, just really when I saw him, it was more about how he felt right now.”

According to Gase, Darnold is currently questionable for Week 5, with the organization looking to avoid making a rushed decision.

“We just need to make sure that we lay everything out and kind of see where we go from here,” he added. “What’s best for him, not just next week, but long-term.”

While he looked to be in discomfort after the hit, Sam Darnold managed to put out a solid performance after the medical check-up. He finished the game with 230 passing yards and zero interceptions while rushing for team-high 84 yards and a touchdown score.

If Darnold isn’t ready to go next week, veteran Joe Flacco is expected to step in under center. Flacco took four snaps on Thursday, completing both of his pass attempts.
