England national team boss Gareth Southgate named his 23-man squad that will travel to the World Cup in Russia on Wednesday.

One of the surprises from the squad was that goalkeeper Joe Hart was excluded.

The career of the 31-year-old player has been on a downward spiral since Pep Guardiola axed him from the Manchester City first-team plans in 2016.

He spent this season on loan with West Ham United and was less than impressive.

The three goalkeepers who Southgate picked with the trio of Jack Butland, Jordan Pickford, and Burnley shot-stopper Nick Pope. Pope is likely to act as the third choice, meaning that whoever starts in goal for the Three Lions will be a battle between Butland and Pickford.

The other notable absentee is Jack Wilshere. Meanwhile, youngsters Trent Alexander-Arnold and Ruben Loftus-Cheek were included following impressive seasons for Liverpool and Crystal Palace respectively.
