England cricket captain Joe Root has revealed that he is ready to bat at number three for his country.

Root replaced Alastair Cook as captain of England last year and had to focus on his leadership duties as well as being arguably the best batsman within the side.

Coach Trevor Bayliss would like to use Root at number three and as a result of the team dropping James Vince for the series against Pakistan means that this will happen.

“I think it’s an opportunity for me to take on a bit more responsibility at the top of the order,” Root said. “I’ve had a year in the captaincy now and I feel I’ve gained enough experience to feel comfortable doing that. For me, it was getting used to the captaincy and making sure I could separate the two; that my full focus was on my batting when it came around.”
