The Australian-born British number one Johanna Konta progresses even further in the French Open after she beat the 22-year-old Croatian player Donna Vekic 6ā2 6ā4, with the impressive victory bringing 28-year-old Konta into the French Open quarterfinals.
This year, Konta surprised everyone with a fantastic season on the clay courts, having reached WTA finals in Rome and Morocco and now continuing her victories in Paris.
There hasnāt been a British woman in the semifinals since 1983 and Konta is hoping to change that. And whatās most unusual, she is winning on surfaces on which she hasnāt had great success before.
Many attribute Kontaās great season to the seasoned experience and guidance of her new coach Dimitri Zavialoff, who she employed at the end of last year and is obviously doing wonders for her performance. Konta said that she was definitely pleased with the way she played and with the kind of problem-solving she was doing out there. She also commented that she had very few drops in her level which kept the pressure on her opponent to try to find a solution.
