While not a difference-maker on the mound, Josh Tomlin has been quite solid for the Atlanta Braves in the past two seasons. This is why the team decided to keep him for an additional year, giving him a one-year contract worth $1 million on Wednesday.

According to The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal, the Braves also have a $1.25 million option to keep Tomlin in 2022. If not exercised, the 36-year-old pitcher will receive a buyout package worth $250K.

Josh Tomlin signed a minor league with the team during the offseason but managed to make the Opening Day roster thanks to an encouraging showing during the spring training. He ended up playing 17 games (five starts) for the Braves in the regular season, posting a 2-2 record with 4.76 ERA and 36 strikeouts.

Tomlin also got a shot in the postseason, but visibly struggled. He faced 11 batters in two games, striking out four and compiling a 10.13 ERA.

Before landing in Atlanta, Tomlin spent nine years pitching for Cleveland Indians. He had a 61-53 record in Indians’ jersey while posting 4.77 ERA and totaling 612 strikeouts.
