Journeyman quarterback Josh McCown is ending his professional career. McCown, who spent 2018 with the New York Jets, confirmed on Monday that he is retiring from NFL after playing 17 seasons in the league.

McCown detailed his decision via a letter which was published on The Players’ Tribune.

“I guess it just goes to show that you don’t always get to choose your own path,” – wrote McCown. “But looking back, I’m proud of how my career has gone. I don’t shy away from the journeyman label. I embrace it, full force. Because it’s been one heck of a journey.”

Despite retiring, McCown will stay close to football. Immediately after announcing his retirement, the 39-year-old also revealed that he took a job with ESPN as NFL analyst.

“I am excited to make the transition into broadcasting with ESPN which will allow me to still be involved with the game I love. I look forward to bringing ESPN viewers the unique insights that I have gained throughout my career,”-  he said in a statement.

Josh McCown started his NFL career with Arizona Cardinals, who took him in the third round of 2002 NFL Draft. After four seasons in Arizona, he embarked on stints with Detroit Lions, Chicago Bears, Cleveland Browns, and several other teams.

McCown threw for 17,707 yards and 98 touchdowns during his career while completing 60.2 percent of his passes.
