It looks like US international striker Jozy Altidore will remain with Toronto FC after all. Although it was believed that Altidore will take his talents to Europe once again, Toronto reportedly decided to offer him a new deal.

According to TNS’ Kristian Jack, two sides are nearing a contract extension that should keep the 29-year-old with the team through 2022.

Following the end of 2018 season, Jozy Altidore stated several times that he wants to keep playing soccer in Toronto but added that this is “not in his hands.”

Toronto FC, on the other hand, didn’t offer any indication that they intend to offer him an extension past 2019. However, after losing Sebastian Giovinco and Victor Vasquez, who decided to continue their careers overseas, the team decided to secure Altidore’s services for several more years.

Jozy Altidore started his career with the New York Red Bulls, where he played for two years before making a blockbuster transfer to La Liga side Villareal. He played for several other European clubs, including AZ Alkmaar and Sunderland, before returning to MLS and signing with Toronto FC in 2015.

Altidore played a big part in establishing Toronto as an MLS powerhouse, helping the team to win MLS Cup and Supporters’ Shield in 2017. During his time with the organization, he played 114 and scored 80 goals.
