The Kansas City Chiefs defeated the Buffalo Bills 26-17 on Monday night to remain two wins ahead of the Las Vegas Raiders in the AFC West.

Both the Chiefs and Bills came into the game with 4-1 records, both losing for the first time this season last week. A game that was supposed to be a shootout between two of the strongest arms the NFL has ever seen, Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and Bills quarterback Josh Allen, ended up being a fairly low-scoring and run-heavy game because of the rainy conditions in Buffalo.

The reigning Super Bowl champion Chiefs showed that they are far from one dimensional, relying on rookie running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire to carry the load and their defense to stifle the Bills. While Mahomes had an uncharacteristically quiet night, he was still able to throw for two touchdowns to his favorite target, tight end Travis Kelce.

It was enough to hold off the Bills, whose offense looked sloppy. The Bills have reason to worry now, after suffering their second straight loss. Allen was inaccurate throwing most of the night, completing only 14 of his 27 passing attempts for 122 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception.

He also didn’t get much help from his running backs, ending the game as Buffalo’s best rusher with 42 yards on the ground.

Thankfully for the struggling Bills, they will face the NFL’s worst team, the New York Jets, next Sunday.
