The Toronto Maple Leafs are sending forward Kasperi Kapanen to the Pittsburgh Penguins in a blockbuster six-player trade.

The Penguins will be getting Kapanen, Pontus Aberg, and Jesper Lindgren, while the Leafs will ge Evan Rodrigues, Filip Hallander, David Warsofsky, and the Penguin’s No. 15 overall pick in the 2020 NHL draft.

The Penguins made a move that is going to hopefully benefit them right away and in the long-run. After two very disappointing seasons, the team wants to make the most of the two years that their star (older) players Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, and Kris Letang are still under contract.

Kapanen just turned 24 this summer and has scored 80 points since 2018. The other two trade pieces that Pittsburgh received are also young, Lindgren is 23-years-old and Aberg is 26-years-old.

The Penguins didn’t even make it to the playoffs this year after losing to the Montreal Canadiens in the qualifying round.

Similarly, the Maple Leafs needed to make a move to shake things up. After losing in the first round of the playoffs in three straight seasons, they weren’t even able to qualify for the playoffs this year.
