It’s no secret that multiple MLB teams have reached out to the Kansas City Royals in recent weeks to see if their All-Star catcher Salvador Perez is available. However, despite their struggles so far in the 2023 season, the Royals have no interest in parting ways with their franchise legend.

Speaking with reporters on Monday, Royals’ general manager J.J. Picollo confirmed that he received phone calls from teams interested in Perez. And he gave them all the same answer.

“We don’t have any intention of trading Salvy,” Picollo said.

“It’s not something we’re looking to do. But it doesn’t mean that teams won’t ask about him,” Picollo added.

The Royals are currently sitting at the bottom of AL Central at 18-48, currently the second-worst record in MLB. It is hard to imagine things will get any better for Kansas City, considering that they have lost their last seven games.

Salvador Perez inked a four-year, $82 million contract extension with the Royals in 2021 and is under team control through the 2025 campaign. It is unclear whether the 33-year-old has any wishes to leave the only franchise he knows.

Perez spent all of his 13 years in MLB with the Royals. He led the franchise to World Series win in 2015, winning the World Series MVP honors in the process. The Venezuela native also has seven All-Star nods on his resume.
