The Sacramento Kings are moving on from center Frank Kaminsky less than a month after signing him to a one-year deal. The Kings announced the decision on Sunday via their social media Twitter page.

Kaminsky joined the Kings in late November after the Phoenix Suns declined their option to keep him under contract for the 2020-21 NBA season. The 27-year-old big suited up for Sacramento in four preseason games, averaging 5.3 points and 2.7 rebounds per game.

The move doesn’t come as much of a surprise since the Kings had to get their roster down to 15 players before Monday, and Kaminsky would probably not see much playing time due to the presence of veteran Hassan Whiteside.

Frank Kaminsky played college basketball at Wisconsin, where he was selected as the Consensus National College Player of the Year. This was following a standout senior season in which he led the program to an NCAA Tournament Finals appearance. This helped his draft stocks rise ahead of the 2015 NBA Draft and prompted Charlotte Hornets to take him with the No.9 overall pick.

Kaminsky failed to make the same impact in the NBA, putting together a couple of solid seasons but failing to establish himself as a starting-caliber center. He is averaging 9.8 points and 4.0 rebounds per game as a pro.
