The Arizona Cardinals see quarterback Kyler Murray as the face of their franchise, which is why they gave him a five-year, $230.5 million extension last year. However, many people think that Murray still has some work to do if he wants to live up to this status.

One of those people is former Cardinals’ offensive tackle Kelvin Beachum, who told Arizona Sports 98.7 FM earlier this week that Murray needs to change some things if he wants to be a true leader for the team.

“It’s not a completed process,” Beachum said during the interview. “I didn’t say he lacks leadership, I just think he needs to grow up a little bit. I think if he has the ability and willingness to grow up, he’s going to be just fine.”

Beachum continued by praising Murray for his talent before adding that the former first-overall pick has to do more than he was doing so far.

“At the end of the day, you have to be able to lead an entire organization, you’ve got to lead a team,” Beachum explained.

Kyler Murray’s leadership skills and work ethic have been questioned for a while, especially after it was revealed that his extension contained a clause that required him to study film during the season. The Cardinals ended up ripping the clause after criticism but it was still enough to tarnish Murray’s reputation in the eyes of many.
