LA Galaxy head coach Greg Vanney issued a caution to striker Javier Hernandez on Wednesday after the player revealed his latest injury status during a live Twitch stream.
Hernandez was interacting with steamers ahead of the Galaxy game against FC Dallas on Sunday when he was questioned about his availability for the game.
“Am I going to play in Dallas? No, I’m still recovering from my injury,” Hernandez confirmed. “I’m going to be between 2 to 5 more weeks out because we have to be very careful with the recovery to avoid relapses.”
Vanney expressed concern with Hernandez’s revelations during a press conference, explaining that while it is permissible for players to engage with fans and discuss how they are doing, there are sometimes limits. He explained that some comments could have an impact on game preparations and management. Vanney also stated his belief that divulging such information could give opponents insight into the team’s tactics.
Galaxy was initially set to open their new season in a game against MLS champions LAFC on February 25 at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, however, this fixture has been moved to July 4 due to severe weather conditions.
