LA Galaxy are bringing some help after a disappointing performance on MLS is Back Tournament. Galaxy announced on Thursday that they have signed goalkeeper Jonathan Klinsmann and winger Yony Gonzalez.

Klinsmann, who is the son of former USMNT head coach Jurgen Klinsmann, arrives on a free transfer after a disappointing stint with Swiss club FC St. Gallen.

Gonzalez, on the other hand, joins the club on loan from Portuguese side Benfica.

By signing Jonathan Klinsmann, Galaxy significantly upped the competition between the posts, considering they already have three goalies on the roster in starter David Bingham and backups Justin Vom Steeg and Eric Lopez. Klinsmann, however, isn’t expected to seriously challenge Bingham for the No.1 spot right away, considering his lack of experience on the highest level.

The 23-year-old player made only three appearances as a senior, starting for Hertha BSC in UEFA Europa League once and playing two games in Swiss cup with St. Gallen. He has 24 appearances for Hertha’s reserves.

Yony Gonzalez, on the other hand, is expected to make an immediate impact and provide playmaking up front. He suited up for four different clubs in the last two years, making the biggest impact in Fluminense where he scored six goals in 34 games.

“Yony is a dynamic playmaker who we believe can strengthen our attack this year,” said Galaxy’s general manager Dennis te Kloese. “He possesses a diverse skillset and will be an important addition to our roster. We look forward to welcoming Yony to Los Angeles and his contributions to our club this year.”
