LA Galaxy’s star midfielder Jonathan dos Santos won’t be able to join his team for the upcoming MLS is Back Tournament. According to Galaxy’s official announcement, the reason for dos Santos’ absence is hernia surgery he underwent on Thursday.

The procedure has been described as minimally invasive by the club and will sideline dos Santos for about six weeks.

Dos Santos is entering his fourth season with Galaxy, after joining the organization in 2017 from La Liga side Villareal. During his time in MLS, the 30-year-old player made 67 appearances in both regular season and playoffs, contributing with six goals and 12 assists.

Dos Santos, who is two-time MLS All-Star, played only 45 minutes of soccer this season. He missed Galaxy’s opening game of 2020 MLS season and was then substituted on the halftime of the second game against Vancouver Whitecaps.

Galaxy is set to open MLS is Back Tournament against Portland Timbers on July 13th. They will also face LAFC and Houston Dynamo during the group stage of the tournament.
