LAFC reclaimed its position as the best team in Los Angeles once again. They secured a 2-0 win over crosstown rivals LA Galaxy on Sunday, snapping the two-game losing streak in “El Trafico” in the process.

Benefiting from a red card that Galaxy’s Giancarlo Gonzalez received midway through the first half, LAFC dominated the majority of the match and got off impressive 27 shots on goal. Two of them found their way into the back of the net, with Danny Musovski scoring in the 58th minute and Carlos Vela adding another one in added time.

This was the first game for Vela in more than two months as the 31-year-old player spent the better part of the season dealing with a knee injury.

“It means a lot to everybody that Carlos not only gets back on the field after being out for a while, but then scores an excellent goal. It’s been really good just to have him back in training,” said LAFC’s head coach Bob Bradley after the match. “We’re excited to get him back every day and keep trying to push him and have him really finish the season in a great way.”

With this win, LAFC now improved to an 8-4-7 record and currently sit as 4th seed in Western Conference.

LA Galaxy, on the other hand, couldn’t get anything going after Gonzalez’s ejection and ended up producing just five shots on goal, with only one of them on target. This was their seventh loss in the last eight matches, and they now sit on the bottom of the standings with 18 points from just as many matches.
