The Los Angeles Lakers rookie guard Bronny James, son of superstar LeBron James, is expected to spend much of the 2024-25 season in the NBA G League. However, he won’t see nearly as much action on the floor as you would expect from a G League player.
During a recent appearance on The Hoop Collective Podcast, ESPN’s Brian Windhorst said that the Lakers only plan to have Bronny play home games with their G League affiliate, South Bay Lakers.
Windhorst added that Bronny being limited to home G League games represents “special treatment.” He will avoid flying commercials like other South Bay players while also being able to spend more time training with his father and the rest of the Lakers’ team.
Bronny was drafted 55th overall by the Lakers in the 2024 NBA Draft. He signed a standard rookie contract and has seen action in six games, spending 16 minutes on the floor in total and scoring four points. In the G League, he has played one game so far and scored six points.
Bronny entered the league with limited experience at college, playing only 25 games and averaging 19.3 minutes on the floor. It was believed that the Lakers would prioritize giving him badly needed experience, but that doesn’t seem to be the case.
