The Las Vegas Golden Knights have resigned goaltender Robin Lehner to a five-year $25 million contract.

This most likely means that they will soon be moving on from Marc-Andre Fluery, who has been the Golden Knight’s goaltender since 2017 and the face of the franchise, taking the team to the Stanley Cup Finals in 2018.

2018 was the franchise’s inaugural season. They ended up losing to the Washington Capitals in the Stanley Cup Finals in five games.

Lehner’s deal will carry $5 million per year and will run through the 2024-25 season, meaning that the Golden Knights obviously see him as the team’s goaltender for the foreseeable future.

It was obvious at the end of the 2019-2020 season that Las Vegas coach Peter DeBoer was leaning towards Lehner, starting him in 16 of the Golden Knight’s 20 postseason games. Lehner ended up going 9-7 with a 1.99 goals-against average and .917 save percentage.

Las Vegas reached the Western Conference finals, where they lost to the Dallas Stars, who ended up losing in the Stanley Cup finals to the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Lehner gets some security with the contract, which he has definitely been looking for, considering the fact that he has played on four different teams over the last three seasons.

Despite helping the New York Islanders get to the second round of the playoffs in 2019, they let the 30-year-old Swede walk. He then signed a one-year $5 million deal with the Chicago Blackhawks, who ended up trading him to Las Vegas.
