Leeds United have finally found their way back to Premier League. Leeds clinched the promotion to the top flight of England’s domestic competition on Friday thanks to 1-0 victory over Barnsley and West Bromwich Albion’s 2-1 loss to Huddersfield.

Leeds now has club-record 87 points with two games left to play, which is enough for them to mathematically secure one of the Sky Bet Championship’s two automatic promotion spots. The club doesn’t need much to win the title either.

Their closest followers are now Brentford City, who has 81 points and also two games to play. Leeds needs only to win a single point in the next two games, or watch Brentford lose points in any of their upcoming two games, and they will lift the Championship trophy for the fourth time in their history.

Leeds United have three titles of England’s first division and have even played UEFA Champions League semifinals back in 2000/01. However, the club was relegated from the Premier League in 2003/04 and has struggled to return to top of European football ever since. They even played in the country’s third tier at one point.

Things changed for the better when Italian businessman Andrea Radrizzani purchased the club in 2017. Radrizzani invested significant money in the club and brought in Argentinian manager Marcelo Bielsa.

In his first season with the club, Bielsa immediately came close to leading the club back in Premier League, being at the top of Sky Bet Championship standings for the better part of the year. However, bad form later in the season caused them to narrowly miss out on the promotion.

This year, however, Bielsa didn’t let his players lose their focus, and as a result, Leeds will play Premier League soccer in 2020/21.
