Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers stated on Thursday that he has every intention of keeping defender Wesley Fofana at the club. This comes after the Foxes rejected two bids for the French international from Premier League rivals Chelsea.

“We’re not looking to sell. Naturally, if there’s interest from other clubs, that is looked at by the club,” Rodgers affirmed to the press. According to the Leicester coach, there are few young defenders that match Fofana in talent. He added that he would like the 20-year-old player to remain at the club for at least another year in order to further his development and ensure that he reaches his full potential.

Fofana arrived at the King Power Stadium in October 2020, with the Foxes forking out a $38.50 million transfer fee to St Etienne for the player. That season, Leicester City went on to finish fifth in the Premier League, with Fofana winning the club’s young player of the season award.

According to Rodgers, Fofana is fully aware of his role at Leicester City as well as where they are as a club at this moment in time. He is expected to make the trip with the team to play Arsenal on Saturday in their second Premier League game of the season.
