Saturday marked the return of the Premier League, after what was a brief pre-season following the coronavirus shutdown. While six matches were played on the opening day, another two were aired yesterday, with West Bromwich Albion, Leicester City, Tottenham Hotspur, and Everton all eager to get their league campaigns off to a good start.

Up first was the game between Premier League newcomers West Brom and Leicester City at The Hawthorns stadium. This occasion marked West Brom’s return to the top flight, after the team secured a second place finish in the Championship last season. As for Leicester City, they are on the hunt for a Champions League spot after narrowly missing out on a top four finish last season.

The Foxes proved too strong for West Brom, as they opened the scoring with a 56th-minute goal from Timothy Castagne. Jamie Vardy extended Leicester’s lead to 2-0 and then 3-0 with penalties in the 74th and 84th minutes.

Moving onto the second match of the evening, and Carlo Ancelotti’s Everton traveled to Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham Hotspur. Last season proved to be disappointing for both major clubs, with Spurs finishing in sixth place while The Toffees ended the season in 12th.

Despite having the home ground advantage, Spurs were unable to find the back of the net. Ultimately, it was a 55th minute Dominic Calvert-Lewin goal that handed Everton the valuable 1-0 away win.

The next round of action sees Sheffield United face Wolves, while Chelsea travels to Brighton.
