Liverpool will look even more scarier this season, despite already having one of the best squads in soccer. According to multiple reports, the Premier League powerhouse has agreed a deal with Bayern Munich for Spanish star midfielder Thiago Alcantara.

Liverpool will spend $25 million to get Thiago, while the player is set to ink a four-year deal with the club. The fee reportedly could climb to $30 million if certain clauses are met.

While Liverpool still hasn’t made the deal official, Bayern Munich’s brass confirmed Thiago’s departure on Thursday.

“Thiago is an exceptional player who spent seven hugely successful years here,” Bayern’s manager Hansi Flick told the media. “He’s a wonderful person and an outstanding professional. It was very emotional today when he said goodbye to us all.”

The transfer doesn’t come as a surprise, considering that Thiago was linked with a move for the better part of the summer, having rejected a contract extension offer from Bayern. Reportedly, the player wanted a new challenge after playing seven years in Germany, during which he won the same number of Bundesliga titles alongside one UEFA Champions League trophy.

Liverpool was always Thiago’s first choice for his next destination, although, in recent weeks, Manchester United also got involved. United even talked with the player’s representatives, but determined that his wage demands are too expensive for them.
