When the Premier League returns, Liverpool will have one extra goalkeeper on their roster. German international Loris Karius announced on Monday that he ended his loan with Turkish side Besiktas and will rejoin The Reds.

According to Karius, he decided to cut his time in Turkey short after the club failed to pay his wages.

“It’s a shame it comes to an end like this, but you should know that I have tried everything to solve this situation without any problems,” Karius wrote on Instagram, explaining that he even offered to take a pay cut.

“It’s important to me that you know I really enjoyed playing for this club a lot. Besiktas can be proud having such passionate fans behind them always giving amazing support,” he added.

Loris Karius served as Liverpool’s primary goalkeeper in the 2017/18 season, but lost his place after making several key mistakes in 3-1 defeat to Real Madrid in Champions League finals. After Liverpool signed Brazilian goalie Alisson in a record-breaking deal, Karius decided to join Besiktas on a two-year loan, hoping to get more chances to play.

Karius’ time in Turkey started well, as he noticeably returned to form and became one of the team’s key players. However, Besiktas failed to pay his salary several times since he joined the club, and it seems like the 26-year-old German finally lost his patience.

It’s hard to believe that Karius can play a meaningful role in Liverpool, so he is expected to find a new club in the summer. The most likely option is a return to Bundesliga side Mainz 05, where he started his professional career.
