Premier League powerhouse Liverpool confirmed on Friday that their striker Roberto Firmino is facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines. According to the club’s official statement, Firmino is dealing with a “serious hamstring injury.”

Detailing Firmino’s injury on Friday, the Reds revealed that the Brazilian got hurt during UEFA Champions League 2-0 win over Atletico Madrid on Wednesday. The club’s manager Jurgen Klopp later provided a further update by saying Firmino could be out for at least one month.

“We talk about weeks, more than four I consider as a serious injury,” Klopp said. “Then we have to see. Bobby is a quick healer.”

Losing Firmino is a tough blow to Liverpool, especially since the club already has several players out due to injuries. The list includes veteran James Milner, talented youngster Curtis Jones and dependable midfielder Naby Keita.

Roberto Firmino has been enjoying a productive season so far, scoring six goals and adding one assist in 11 games. His stellar performances helped Liverpool remain unbeaten in Premier League, where they currently sit in second place with three points behind leaders Chelsea.

One thing that works in Liverpool’s favor is the upcoming international break. This means Firmino won’t miss as many games as he would if the injury happened at some other point in the season.
