According to reports, Dutch midfielder Gini Wijnaldum is incredibly close to signing for Spanish giants FC Barcelona during this summer’s transfer window.

While Liverpool insists that there has been no contact between the club and Barcelona, a transfer deal nevertheless seems to be on the cards. It’s been reported in the English press since Sunday that Barcelona are posed to make an offer of $20 million for Wijnaldum.

While it may seem like a low sum for the key Liverpool player, this sum is largely affected by the Dutch international’s age. He is, after all, a few months short of his 30th birthday.

Should the transfer indeed occur, The Reds will surely miss Wijnaldum’s services. Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp had the following to say about the midfielder, “Is he the perfect midfielder? From the skillset 100 percent. He has all the things you need.”

Wijnaldum proved himself to be a key player for the Reds, particularly in the last two seasons. He played in all but one of Liverpool’s Champions League games en route to their title win in the 2018/19 season and proved to be an indispensable asset in Liverpool’s first Premier League title win in 30 years.
