FC Dallas finally lost their patience with Luchi Gonzalez and will continue the 2021 MLS season with a new head coach. Gonzalez was fired alongside his assistant Mikey Varas after a 3-2 defeat against the Houston Dynamo on Sunday.

FC Dallas struggled mightily this season, managing only six wins. The loss to the Dynamo was their 11th and put them even further behind in the Western Conference playoff race. The team now sits at No. 11 in the standings with 27 points from 26 matches.

“We believe a coaching change is in the best interest of the club at this time to help us achieve our goals,” FC Dallas President Dan Hunt said in a statement. “I want to thank Luchi for everything he has done for this organization. We wish him all the best.”

After relieving Gonzalez of his duties, Dallas announced that Director of Soccer Operations Marco Ferruzzi would take over the head coaching duties on an interim basis.

Gonzalez took over FC Dallas ahead of the 2019 MLS season after previously serving as the academy director for the organization. In his first two seasons at the helm, Gonzalez led Dallas to postseason appearances, although the team failed to advance past the second round. He leaves with a 29-26-32 head coaching record.
