Montreal Impact will get to have a talented center back Luis Binks on their roster for another year.

Impact announced on Wednesday that they have extended Binks’ loan stint from Seria A side Bologna for the 2021 MLS season in a move that should be beneficial for both sides. The club’s defense will keep its stability while the 19-year-old player gets to gather more experience before heading to Europe.

The team confirmed the deal on social media.

Luis Binks started his soccer journey with Tottenham Hotspur, joining the club’s youth academy as a six-year-old child. Binks went on to spent almost 13 years with the organization, but never managed to get an opportunity with the first team.

Binks signed his first professional contract with Montreal Impact back in February and immediately took command of the team’s defense. This enabled him to get the attention of European scouts, with Bologna being the fastest and securing his signature after he just played eight games as a pro.

Binks already has 20 starts with Montreal in MLS, while he also made two appearances in the CONCACAF Champions League.

“Despite his young age and his little experience at the professional level, Luis played an excellent first season with us, which got him a transfer to Bologna,” said Impact’s sporting director Olivier Renard. “He showed what he can bring to this group and we are happy to know he will keep progressing in our club for another year.”
